With the separation of Singapore from Malaysia on 9th August 1965, the Singapore Red Cross found itself in an independent and sovereign Republic and began to take steps to constitute itself into a National Red Cross Society and work for international recognition.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;SRCS was incorporated by an Act of Parliament on 6 April 1973 and it was admitted into the federation as the 120th National Society in November 1973.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On 18 March 1984, the Red Cross Blood Centre was officially opened and by arrangement with the Ministry of Health, all blood collected would be sent to National Blood Centre for processing and distribution.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Red Cross Hostel for the physically Handicapped Workers, which was established in 1972 at Block 20 Yuan Ching Road, was acquired by the Housing and Development Board for other purposes. As such, the Hostel was moved to Block 191 Boon Lay Drive #01-164/204/216 Singapore 640191 on 1 July 1989.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In exchange for the site at the Changi Creek, the former Princess Elizabeth Estate at 72 Elizabeth Drive Singapore 660000 was given to the SRCS for conversion into premises for the Red Cross Home for the Disabled and I was officially opened on the 19 August 1989.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Red Cross Campsite was eventually shifted to a former primary school at 62 Jalan Khairuddin Singapore 457524.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;u&gt;&lt;span style="color:#006600;"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;Organisation&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/u&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;SRCS is governed by a Council which is responsible for pursuing the objectives of the Society as laid down by the Act of Parliament and its constition. SRCS is part of a world-wide, non-political, non-religious movement which based its work on the fundamental principles.  An independent humanitarian organisation, it raises its own funds in serving humanity and furthering the work of the Red Cross locally and internationally.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The present Patron of the SRCS is His Excellency, Mr. S R Nathan, President of the Republic of Singapore. The present Chairman of the SRCS is Lt- General (Retired) Winston Choo and the present Secretary General is Mrs. Geri Lau.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Council of SRCS is a body comprising of 30 members with the Chairman being appointed by the President of Republic of Singapore, the Patron of SRCS. The Council consults 3 appointed Commissions providing expertise, namely the Finance Commission, the legal Commission and the Medical Commission.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The general management is overseen by the Executive Committee, with operation responsibilities vested in the Red Cross Youth Division, the Welfare Division, the Adult Volunteer Division, Standing Committees, Task Forces and Resource Panels.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Volunteers and staff work together in organizing and implementing the activities and programmes of SRCS.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;u&gt;&lt;span style="color:#006600;"&gt;Secretariat   &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/u&gt; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;The secretary General, who is appointed by the Council, is delegated with the responsibilities of the management and administration aspects of the work of the Society and is also responsible for the implementing the policies and directors laid down by the Council.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;·       &lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt; Services&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;o       Red Cross Home for the Disabled was set up in 1952 to provide to the 60 severely disabled residents between 10- 40 years of age.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;o       Red Cross Hostel for the physically Handicapped Workers subsided accommodation and transport services to and from work.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;o       Red Cross Blood Donor Recruitment Programme to enhance blood collection efforts and to enhance blood giving awareness among Singaporeans.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;o       Red Cross Ambulance Services ( The opening hours: Mondays to Saturday 8.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. and the hotline is Tel: 63373333)&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;o       First Aid Duty&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;o       Information and Referral&lt;br /&gt;·        Volunteer Development&lt;br /&gt;·        Red Cross Training Centre was set up in 1992 to expand its First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) courses to commercial sectors.&lt;br /&gt;·        International Services&lt;br /&gt;·        Fund Raising and Public Relations&lt;br /&gt;·        Finance and Administration&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc33cc;"&gt;SINGAPORE RED CROSS YOUTH&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;The Red Cross Youth seeks to:&lt;br /&gt;· promote and encourage the participation of children and young persons in the work of the Red Cross.&lt;br /&gt;· inculcate healthy living habits&lt;br /&gt;· develop a sense of social responsibility&lt;br /&gt;· strengthen the band of international friendship existing between Red Cross Youth members throughout the world&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Red Cross runs school-based youth programmes and is an Extra-Curricular Activity recognised by the Ministry of Education. The Red Cross Youth has two programmes one for the Primary school children (Link programme) and another for secondary school youths (Cadet programme). The organisation of youth activities under this system has produced good results with both the Link units and Cadet  nits, enthusiastically pursuing a series of activities ranging from social/recreational to community programmes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Red Cross Youth Division is also comprised of HQ-based volunteers who are Pre- University students, Polytechnic students or working adults. The present&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt;Chairman&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;of the SRCS is Lt- General (Retired) Winston Choo and the present&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt;Secretary General&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;is Mrs. Geri Lau.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;The&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt;Council of SRCS&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;is a body comprising of 30 members with the Chairman being appointed by the President of Republic of Singapore, the Patron of SRCS. The League of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was started in 1919 with its headquarters in Geneva, in coordinating role and work of National Societies at international level.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;IFRC was formerly known as League of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (LRCS), which was founded on 5 May 1919 in Paris by Henry Pomeroy Davidson. branch of the British Red Cross Society and incorporated into the Malaysian Red Crescent Society in 1st July 1965.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;color:#000000;"&gt;With the separation of Singapore from Malaysia on 9th August 1965, the Singapore Red Cross found itself in an independent and sovereign Republic and began to 1828- 30 October 1910)&lt;br /&gt;- witnessed one of the fiercest battles of the nineteenth century- the battle of Solferino&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;color:#6600cc;"&gt;Battle of Solferino&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"&gt;-24 June 1859&lt;br /&gt;-Austria, France and Sardinia&lt;br /&gt;-more than 15 hours&lt;br /&gt;-more than 40,000 were wounded as a result of no medical aid&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;color:#6600cc;"&gt;A Memory of Solferino (Un Sevenior de Solferino)&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"&gt;Published in 8 November 1962&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"&gt;Dunant was to forward his idea:&lt;br /&gt;-To foster the creation in every country of a society for the relief of the military wounded and capable of helping the army medical services to carry out their task&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#6600cc;"&gt;Geneva Conventions&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt;First Geneva Convention&lt;/span&gt; (22 August 1864)&lt;br /&gt;-to save the wounded soldiers on battlefields&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt;Second Geneva Convention&lt;/span&gt; (1906)&lt;br /&gt;-to extend the principles of the First Convention to the victims of naval warfare including shipwrecked men&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt;Third Geneva Convention&lt;/span&gt; (1929)&lt;br /&gt;-to protect the welfare of prisoners-of-war and it contains elaborate and detailed rules for their treatment&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt;Fourth Geneva Convention&lt;/span&gt; (1949)&lt;br /&gt;-to ensure the safety of civilians to an occupied territory and those who happen to be in the enemy country during the war&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#6600cc;"&gt;The Additional Protocols&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/strong&gt;(Founded on 8 June 1977)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt;Protocol I&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- Concern international conflicts&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000099;"&gt;Protocol II&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- Concerns internal conflict or civil war in which government of a country find itself at grips with rebel forces&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#6600cc;"&gt;Red Cross Emblem and Red Crescent&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Purpose: To ensure the protection of the war-wounded and of the person caring for them.
